ACTIVITY CHOICES DURING THE SWT IN POTENZA

We organized for you a preliminary plan for social activities to mingle and visit some of the most beautiful places in the region in the evenings after the meeting. We ask you to indicate your interest in participating in each one of these.

ACTIVITY 1: TUESDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER: Visit to the “Cantine del Notaio” cellars

The Basilicata region is famous for the production of amazing wine from the native “Aglianico” grape, which grows in the region of Mount Vulture, an ancient inactive volcano.

We will go visit the old cellars of one of the most prestigious producers of the region (link here: https://www.cantinedelnotaio.it/en/), which are excavated in natural caves, and have a wine tasting experience accompanied by local products. If the weather is good, the tasting will happen in the courtyard just outside the cellars. The place will be booked all for us.

HOURS: We will leave from Potenza by bus at 4 pm and return after 9 pm.
COST (indicative): 25-30 euros per person (includes bus transfer, visit, tasting and all).

ACTIVITY 2: WEDNESDAY 6TH SEPTEMBER: We will have to choose between two options

OPTION 2.1: Visit + dinner in Matera

Matera (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matera) is known as one of the most ancient human settlement in the world. In the modern era, until the 60s, it was known as one of the poorest towns in Italy, yet in recent times its geographic configuration and beauty has made it one of the top destinations for tourism. The city is unique as the old town is built literally in old caves.

We will have the opportunity to visit the “gravina”, the geologic features surrounding the city, have a walk in the historic old town, and have dinner (in a place to be chosen yet).

HOURS: We will leave from Potenza by bus at 5 pm and return after 11 pm.
COST (indicative): 30-40 euros per person (includes bus transfer, visit, dinner).

OPTION 2.2: Visit + dinner in Castelmezzano

The “Dolomiti Lucane” are geological formations called “Dolomites” for their similarity with the Alps in Trentino. Two small towns are built right at the foot of the Dolomiti: Castelmezzano and Pietrapertosa. We will visit Castelmezzano, which offers a fantastic view of the valley around and a magic atmosphere at night (see picture). Being a small town, the best option is just to go around and enjoy the vibe. After that, we will have dinner in a restaurant nearby with local products.

HOURS: We will leave from Potenza by bus at 5 pm and return after 11 pm.
COST (indicative): 25-30 euros per person (includes bus transfer, visit, dinner).
